The Effects of Social Relationship and Community Environment of Elderly Living Alone on Life Satisfaction: Analysis of 2019 Community Health Survey Data

Abstract
Objective : This study is an attempt to find out the effects of social relationship and community environment of among male and female elderly living alone on life satisfaction.

Methods : The raw data of the ¡¯2019 Community Health Survey¡¯ were provided from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and 15,840 people were finally included in the analysis. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 20. Win. package, and basic statistical analysis, difference test(t-test/Kruskal-Wallis H test/¥ö2 ), and multiple regression analysis were performed.

Results : Women's social and economic levels and environment were lower and poorer than men, but women showed relatively higher levels of communication, community environment satisfaction, and life satisfaction in social relationships than men. The social relationship and community environment of the elderly living alone according to the gender of men and women were found to have a significant effect on life satisfaction. For men, exchanges with relatives and friends, and trust between neighbors were significant, and for women, exchanges with relatives and friends as well as neighbors, trust between neighbors, congratulations and condolences between neighbors, and the natural environment of the neighborhood were significant. It was found to have a positive(+) effect on satisfaction, showing slightly different results in detail.

Conclusion : It is meaningful that the difference in gender characteristics of the elderly living alone, and the effects of social relationship and community environment on life satisfaction were specifically compared and confirmed. In addition, based on the implications and implications of the results of this study, the government and local community's policy intervention plans were proposed.
